A REVIEW OF MARDO VAN HEERDEN'S FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Duration: January 25 to January 27, 2010. | by Muzi Mbungela.

I still can't understand how 3 days of fashion photography can change one's life so majorly. My perception of colour, shapes, posture and the modeling world has changed completely - as a matter of fact, it feels as if I have just received a new pair of eyes. I don't see the same way, I see with depth-of-field and blink at different shutter speeds while focusing at different F-stops, keeping my ISO at a mere 100. Mardo what have you done?

I really like the fact that you separated us for your workshops. That makes the learning process so much more efficient. I learned an abundance of things, I've only started digesting some of them now. I feel this workshop is an essential for any photographer, whether still starting out or already established. I like how you demonstrated to me the pros and cons of the diffused lighting as opposed to the umbrella lights. You did not in any way impose your lighting and shooting methods on me, you gave me a well rounded overview - now that my friend, I think is one of the hardest things for the average human to pull off.

Thanks for giving me creative freedom - that helped a lot as far as the learning process was concerned. One other thing that really did it for me is how you took me through all the relevant steps of preparing for a high fashion shoot on site. The planning thereof; the equipment checks; the sketching of poses; choosing the relevant attire and time management - I believe that really goes a long way.

This workshop was actually quite priceless in my eyes - I gained way more than what I bargained for. It is not often that you meet a perfectionist, teacher and mentor, with such a big heart - all this in one… I know God is smiling down on me for a fact. Thanks for everything Mardo, extend my gratitude to Adelle, Jodene & Ledine for making me to feel like a pro, their precious time, roles and efforts don't go unrecognized.

Kind Regards,

Muzi Mbungela
